Don Foster on Bikes, Buses and Trains

House of Commons (16K)

BCC member Frank Tompson wrote to Don Foster recently, highlighting the need for a proper integrated transport policy, but with particular emphasis on the ability for trains and buses to carry bikes.

Frank said, "Don’s reply is fairly upbeat and I welcome his positive attitude. In particular he refers to the Transport White Paper and has said he will keep me updated. I have replied thanking him for that, and that I am very interested in the Minister’s response. I shall post anything I receive to the group."

Success - Bike Ban on Trains Lifted!

Wednesday 2nd February 2005
Wessex Trains has today lifted its peak-hour ban on bicycles, following
a protest by Bath Cycling Campaign last week (see below).

We are very pleased that Wessex Trains has made this move. It will make things easier for those who wish to commute with their bike, or wish to travel further afield with their bikes, joining connecting services at Bristol. It will help to promote cycling, and reduce the need to travel by car.
