Minutes of the meeting 22 October 2007

Minutes of the Bath Cycling Campaign meeting held 22 October 2007
Those present: Nigel Williams, Adrian Bateman, Malcolm Dodds, Tony Ambrose, Tony Russell, John and Robert from Saltford (apologies to anyone present not noted here)
1. Minutes of the September meeting were agreed. The meeting confirmed that the bank account should be opened with the Co-op Bank and that any two of the three officers (Chair, Secretary, and Treasurer) should sign cheques etc. It was noted that Andre who spoke at the previous meeting would have his expenses reimbursed and that Ian was owed for the CCN subscription.
2. The draft constitution was agreed and it would be put on the website prior to the AGM. The November meeting would be the AGM, which would allow discussion and any amendments to be agreed. The next meeting would be held at the meeting room in The Rummer 7.30 on 26 November. Adrian agreed to check if any website, calendars etc needed to be updated to reflect the change of location.
3. Funds: £7.57 held by previous Treasurer to be banked. Nigel to investigate whether funds held by Envolve from a previous Bath cycling group could be vested in BCC.
4. The social ride on 28 October was confirmed – meet 12.30 at the Abbey. Organised by Liz.
5. John and Robert introduced themselves and explained their concerns about a proposal to extend towards Saltford the steam railway line which runs parallel to the Bath/Bristol cycle path. Unclear as to what statutory procedures had been followed thus far. Tony Ambrose undertook to circulate information to Sustrans. Nigel suggested airing the concerns via the BCC website. Tony Russell suggested contacting Alison Sherwin at BANES. Tony Ambrose suggested various media possibilities.
6. Joint Liaison meeting report: Tony R reported briefly on the items that had been discussed and noted the fluid membership of this group, which appeared to vary according to the meeting location. Discussion on which BANES group (Joint Liaison or Cycling sub-group) provided the best forum for promoting a strategic view of cycling. Key issues included how to influence the current BANES administration, which senior officers to contact and how to advance a strategy for better provision for cyclists.
7. Nigel suggested a Bath Cycling Summit for 2008 to try to build momentum. An evening? A half day? To coincide with National Bike Week? To link with two Tunnels progress? Generally thought to be an excellent idea. To be discussed further at next meeting.
8. Malcolm to chase Alison for date of next Cycling sub-group.
9. Malcolm to contact Joy Jefferies to follow up Bath Package progress. Nigel to attend if possible.
10. Malcolm to follow up contact with Southgate developer re Travel Plan and bike facilities. Tony A noted that the number of car parking spaces had recently increased – had anything been done to increase bike parking spaces? Nigel to write to BANES
11. Nigel said that Ian White had done some research on mixed cycle/pedestrian use in Cambridge – this could be reported to a future meeting.
12. Nigel noted that he was attending the CCN conference on 17 November – further details on BCC website.
13. The forthcoming critical Two Tunnels/Connect2 TV vote in early December was noted. Nigel would publicise via website.
14. Nigel would publicise via the website the mountain bike activity run by Tim at The Raven.
