A Cycling Summit for Bath

MP for Bath, Don Foster, has agreed to chair the forthcoming Bath Cycling Summit.

Key speakers are John Grimshaw, chief executive of Sustrans and Kieran Morgan, director of public health in BANES

The summit, being organised by Bath Cycling Campaign in partnership with BANES council will take place on 20 June 2008 - in bike week - and will bring together about 30 key decision makers and interested parties with inspirational guest speakers.

The summit's aim will be to inspire, connect people and have actions which can be taken forward to increase cycling in the area.

Delegates to the Summit are from the council, health, police and interested local organisations and Universities. A dedicated web site for the Summit has been created at www.bathcyclingsummit.org.uk. It will allows on-line registration as well as providing details about the event to delegates.

Cllr Charles Gerrish, Executive Member for Transport, is very positive. Cllr Gerrish has given the project BANES council's backing and support.

Some of the themes which may be covered are: Congestion, Core Strategy,
Transition towns / Peak oil / Climate change, Sustainability / Quality of life,
Maps / Signs, Routes, Cycle Friendly Infrastructure – Bath Package / LTP, Health –"cycling on prescription", Getting people cycling, Integrated transport, Planning, Personal travel plans, "Cycling is good for business" – parking, productivity, shopping

The event ends with a short cycle ride and photo opportunity at 12.30.
