Bath Cycling Summit progress report
We have got a sponsor. Fielden, Clegg and Bradley have offered us £200. This will go towards providing refreshments. Suggestions of further potential sponsors and caterers please.
29 invitations have gone out with seven positive responses so far. Reminders will go out in a couple of weeks. Seven BCC members have agreed to be facilitators.
Does anyone know of a local cycling friendly GP, or other health professional, that we could invite to the event?
Victoria Bridge development
As part of the Western Riverside development we would like to see more cycle friendly access between Victoria Bridge and NCN 4 on the riverside path. The proposed development appears to be permeable to cyclists, but there is a question mark over routes to and from the city centre.
A meeting has been arranged with Fielden, Clegg and Bradley (Architects), Crest Nicholson (Developer) and BANES on 21st May to discuss options.
Nigel will ask Tony R for suggestions on possible infrastructure solutions.
Save the Railway Path
We decided that we support Bristol Cycling Campaign and the Save the Railway Path group in their opposition to the scheme to build a BRT route from Bristol to Longwell Green on the Bristol to Bath Railway Path.
Newbridge BRT route
We currently support the proposed BRT route from Newbridge to Pines Way in Bath. We would prefer to see a cycle and pedestrian route without busses and possibly a "Park and Ride A Bike" option of Velolib style cycle hire
Response 2 Route, the group opposing the BRT are holding a meeting on 23rd April. They believe that if there is a compromise on the width, then it would be the cycle provision which is lost. They also suggest that a future link between Bath and Bristol is planned, which we would not want to see.
Please share info and thoughts on this topic on the email group.
AOB
Malcolm spoke at the Better Bath Meeting on transport last week with the message that "BANES already has cycling high on it's agenda, it just needs to put it's money where it's policies are."
Transition Bath Transport and Built Envorionment Group meeting Wed 23 April, The Ram, Widcombe, 8pm
Brighton has decided to spend 100% of its transport budget on cycling for one year. We will contact Bricycles (the local CCN group) to see if we can get any useful info.
Next meeting – Mon 19 May, The Rummer
