Just yesterday Campaign for Better Transport released a ground-breaking initiative to score the English regions to determine the extent and causes of car dependency. How well did your region fare on our car dependency scorecard? Not very well, I suspect – but tell me what you think. We aim to score the regions annually looking for improvements in access to local trains and trams, for instance, and better conditions in which to walk and cycle. We will use the scorecard to press the Government to work nationally and with local authorities to provide effective and affordable options for the many of us who wish to get out of our cars.
