BANES planned spend on cycling

Pennyfarthing (5K)

Cllr Gitte Dawson has forwarded the link to the Capital Transport Programme that will be approved tomorrow (Fri 30 Mar) if there are no objections.

Appendix 1, page 2, top, shows 'Cycle Schemes', with a piddling total of 5 entries covering 3 years; one reason why I was bashing on at the last meeting about getting an agreed process in place to address cycling proposals and to ensure they are actually allocated to the budget. (People might wish to waive this under prospective local councillors' noses when the campaigning starts and they claim to be terribly pro-cycling.) However, the 'Two Tunnels' entry shows 2 x £100k in place, so, for the time being at least, the Two Tunnels Group is reasonably happy.

BANES planned spend on

BANES planned spend on cycling the group says that although the City boasts of spending virtually all its allocation from Beans cycling budget, the vast majority of it was spent on paperwork, not on actual cycle schemes. "To show they're doing something about cycling, they charge reports," says Smyth. "But then they don't act on them. We did a freedom of information request that showed they wasted about £250,000 on reports which never came to anything."

I don't know if I'm getting the wrong end of the stick here, but this letter from Government Office for the SW giving notice of funding for transport in BANES looks like BANES should be spending 9% of it's budget on cycling.
